BREEDING PHILOSOPHY. I breed my dogs for hunting skills,
and also require they be healthy with good hips, heart, and eyes certified, as well as being
sociable and friendly. This difficult task results in my having very
few dogs and only a few quality litters. After 2 years of growth,
training and hunt testing, and medical testing, I cull the dogs before
breeding whenever they do not meet my criteria. The resulting pup from such tested quality parents should grow into a
healthy top notch hunting and companion dog. The Boykin pup of untested
parents may suffer and require, expensive eye, hip or heart surgery costing many times
any savings on a pup. Costs of eye surgery $1500, single hip surgery
$2000, and heart surgery of $5,000 are common. CAUTION:
BUY PUPS ONLY FROM
TESTED PARENTS.

The
Deutscher Wachtelhund is a 300 year old breed developed in the forests of
Germany as a versatile hunting dog. It ranges in weight from 44 – 64
pounds. It is a water lover, and an
excellent duck retriever. The name in German means Quail dog. It is reputed
to be the original spaniel. The DW
flushes game like a spaniel, and tracks like a hound making voice or giving
tongue on the trail. It is a courageous dog used to hunt wild boars in
Germany and bears in Canada. It retrieves both feathered and fur game. It is
renown for its tracking ability of game such as the wild boar, and following
wounded game blood trails. The Wachtelhund has a nose as good as a bloodhound
and proves it in advanced hunting tests by tracking 40 hour old blood trails. Although
there are no stories concerning the Wachtelhund turkey hunting in
Germany, the Wachtelhund is building
its own legends as a turkey dog here in the United States. Several hunters
have bagged 20-24 turkeys in several
states each year in last 2 years. A
liver brown dog does not need a camo bag to hide white spots like droppers from pointer- setter crosses. The German breeding practices are highly
defined and strictly enforced. Since
1965 the DW registry (VDW) enforces a breed order that requires both
excellent health and proven hunting skills before the dogs may be bred. The DW
tracks miles after its game. It will
hunt head high in the air scent or nose close to ground. The DW is an
independent thinker hunting alone. The DW makes the voice on the trail when it finds the game. When the flock is
located you know where it is. Wilde Vom
Sching is OFA and CERF. Xanto Vom Sauerland is OFA/VDW Hip EXCELLENT and
CERF. Wilde has her Started Hunter
Retriever Title and Xanto has completed his SHR title. EMAIL:
