DEUTSCHER WACHTELHUND
BREEDING PHILOSOPHY. I breed my dogs for hunting skills,
and also require they be healthy with good hips, heart, and eyes certified, as well
as being sociable and friendly. This difficult task results in having
very few dogs and only a few quality litters. After 2 years of growth,
training and hunt testing, and medical testing, I cull the dogs before breeding whenever they do not meet my
criteria. The resulting pup
from such tested
quality parents should grow into a healthy top notch
hunting and companion dog.
BOYKIN PUPS
All Boykin
Spaniel pups are well bred puppies with several generations of Orthopedic
Foundation of America OFA
hip certification, eye
certification (CERF) as well as
heart CA passes. Patella (PA)
exams are now done on the sire and dame also. More recently BBK’s breeding parents had the top
OFA rating of CHIC.
Due to recent developments in genetic testing, BBK
now tests for EIC (Exercise induced Collapse) genes and breeds to avoid
this serious genetic disease.
The Boykin pup of untested parents is likely to suffer and require, expensive eye, hip, or heart surgery costing many
times any savings on a pup. Costs of eye surgery $1500, single hip
surgery $2000, and heart surgery of $5,000 are common.
CAUTION: BUY BOYKIN PUPS ONLY FROM TESTED
PARENTS
BOYKIN BUYERS: ASK THE BREEDER FOR
PROOF of OFA HIPS, CERF EYES, OFA PA patellas,
EIC tests. CA is a plus. Check the website Orthopedic
Fundation of America (OFA) for the parents
ratings.
WACHTELHUND PUPS
The Wachtelhund Pups have been bred with
more care. The DW pups have
forty (40) years of ancestors which have been hunt tested for desirable
hunting instincts, and health tested for “OFA”
non-dysplastic hips, conformation, good bites and often times, elbow
exams. I have been testing eye Certication as
well.
BBK breeding stock generally
have had eye certifications (CERF) although DW’s are not generally
known for eye problems. (One AVCO vet said to me “If you don’t
look, you won’t have a problem. How will you know?”)
Can that dog
hunt?
With the
German spirit and tradition, all my breeding parents are hunt tested in independently judged UKC Hunting
Retriever Club tests. BBK currently uses the only HUNT
tested breeding parents in North America.
WACHTELHUND BUYERS: Ask
the breeder for OFA or VDW HIP dysplasia ratings, ask if parents Hunt tested. OFA Elbow,
& Eye CERF is a plus.
[NOTE:
OFA website does not list hip ratings done in Germany]

Another Boulder Brook First:
CONGRATULATIONS TO ROLF

Dhardyg Boulder Brook (call name
"Rolf") is Aaron Kentsler’s
13 month old male. .

Rolf scored 128 out of a possible 134 and earned the
only Prize I of the test. Rolf's conformation was rated very good. This was America's first
Wachtelhund hunt test with a German judge. Above, Rolf is practicing early training in
BBK cow pasture
FEEDBACK ON DW PUP OF Trevor x Wilde BREEDING:
“Espe's natural hunting skills are continuing to amaze
me. She sails through the woods, nose down, trailing game, and will find
turkeys if they are anywhere around scattering them while letting out an
unmistakable, loud bark to alert you as to what is going on. She will chase
a deer for a short run but I can take care of that with the Alpha 100 GPS
collar. She has busted up at least 4 gangs of turkeys on only 3 hunts (2
killed) and has had a couple of good runs with gobblers before they finally
decided to take to the air. I could not be happier with a dog than I am
with her and considering she is all of 1 year old I can
not wait to see what the future brings.
Thank you
for recommending the DW breed to me. What a great house and hunting
companion!”
P. NEAL. MANAKIN VA

My apologies to Ashley.
She, not Charles, shot this buck. And it was 11 points, not a 10
pointer. What a woman!!!
Ashley Brasington shot it in
Florida. She shows the buck with 1 year old Deutscher Wachtelhund Brixi Boulder Brook.
Brixi blood tracked this 11 pointer in December 2007. Brixi
found 10 deer that year.
Get a Wachtelhund and don’t lose the big bucks!
The family is getting another female from this litter.
